Q: Who are you, and what do you do for Carlton Services?

A: I am Lee Strange, I am Manager of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Department at Carlton Services.

Q: How did you get started as an engineer?

A: After leaving secondary school, I actively sought an apprenticeship in Engineering.

Q: How did you find Carlton Services?

A: I was introduced to Carlton Services via BEST Training Agency.

Q: What is a common challenge you face when on client jobs?

A: Catering to every customers needs can be challenging at times, but we always go above and beyond to satisfy our customers.

Q: After 5 years what did you like most about your role?

A: The working relationship that I built with my colleagues.

Q: Has it changed over the years?

A: No, a good working relationship is imperative with a small team like ours.

Q: How does Carlton Services differ from other engineering employers?

A: Being a small family run business, we are close, and we support each other in and out of work, which I don’t feel that you would experience elsewhere, especially larger companies.

Q: What advice would you have for young aspiring engineers?

A: Always give 100% effort and take pride in your work.

Q: What’s your favourite installation to do?

A: I get a lot of satisfaction from planning an installation from start to finish, I have a good team of installation engineers that I can rely on to carry out the work to a high standard. The more challenging, the more rewarding.

Q: Which is your favourite client to work with?

A: We are very fortunate to have many loyal customers which we have built good relationships with over the years.

Q: What does an average day in your role look like?

A: I balance my time between site visits and preparing quotes/organising the workload for my team.

Q: How much extra training have you undergone at Carlton Services?

A: I have attended many manufacturer training courses over the years as well as Health and Safety courses, training is invaluable to become a good Engineer/Manager.

Q: What do you predict will be a trend in your industry in the future?

A: With the increase in global temperatures, I feel that Air Conditioning will become essential in homes and workplaces in the future.

Q: What are your pet peeves when it comes to the tasks you carry out?

A: Time wasting, time is precious!

Q: What are some ‘best practices’ you’ve learnt in your time that your customers could easily implement?

A: Being open and honest, and good communication is key .
